Our Story

Born and raised in Lake County, agriculture has always been a part of us. In 2007 we purchased our first piece of land with the plan to run a small herd of cows. By 2013 we had our first starter herd - four bred cows, three heifers, and 1 bull.  After years of slow growth and many lessons learned, we were still struggling to make it all pan out.

Rancher Raised was born from a desire to localize our beef and a need for sustainability in a tough industry. Balancing off-ranch jobs while raising cattle, we saw firsthand the financial challenges of small-scale ranching. To ensure control over our market and maximize the value of our animals, we took a bold step in 2022—launching Rancher Raised to directly connect with our local community and provide quality beef through direct sales.

Our Ranch

Our family ranch is located at the edge of the Great Basin in South-Central Oregon. We are working to raise kids, cows, and hay in an area that is known for its wide-open space. The ranch is diverse in vegetation and utilization.  Calving season is followed by green grazing and growing. Hay is harvested for the cold months. By November those cattle that are of age and size are sold directly to you, others are weaned and sent to the general market to further their growth. Mother cows prepare for their next calf, and we do it all over again.

Our Cattle

Our ranch beef is primarily angus with a hint of hereford and a splash of charolais.  We track our cattle's age and lineage. This helps to ensure we keep desired genetics and top-notch mothers in the herd.  Our cattle are raised with plenty of open pasture and quality feed, which ensures health throughout the herd by reducing disease and the need for antibiotics. Cattle are considered "Grass-Fed." Feed is mainly grass for 6-7 months of the year and hay (grass, alfalfa, rye) for 5-6 months of the year. Our cattle are grown on a natural cycle with no growth hormones to speed the bulk process.

why choose Rancher Raised beef

Supporting local food systems strengthens the local economy and food security.

Money spent on local food stays in the community longer, supporting business and jobs. Local systems are less vulnerable to global disruptions, weather events, and market shocks.

Reduce the number of links in the chain from producer to consumer and pay less for high quality local food.

Supermarket primal cuts can range from $10/lb - $20+/lb with limited source information. We do our very best to keep our beef as cost effective as possible and can provide you the age, feed, breed, and history. We have calculated the cost per pound to range between $6.25 and $9.00 cut and wrapped.

We manage to enhance the growth of the pasture, the health of the land, and the value of the animal.

Dedication to quality starts from the ground up. Grazing patterns and stocking levels are utilized to promote healthy soils and productive crops that will allow for a sustainable operation and happy cows.  Food travels shorter distances, cutting fuel use and emissions from transportation, refrigeration, and storage.

Beef is high in protein, rich in minerals, and full of vitamins.

Protein is the building block our body needs to build and maintain lean muscle. A 6 oz beef contains 46 g of protein while providing over half the daily recommended amount of Zinc and Selenium. Other minerals include Phosphorus, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Copper, Calcium, and Manganese. Beef also contains Vitamin B3, B6, B2, B5 and a high amount of Vitamin B12, which is an essential nutrient that supports skin, mood, sleep, energy, and nerve function.
